Call for Volunteers

NGLA Annual Conference and Association volunteer opportunities include assessment, awards, educational programming, fundraising, and project management.

An additional opportunity for undergraduates and graduates is the NGLA Student Staff Team. This team volunteers on-site during the NGLA Annual Conference. Lodging, food, and conference registration will be provided by NGLA.

On-Site Conference Committee Roles

The On-Site Conference Committee Roles must be available for on-site support throughout the 2026 NGLA Annual Conference. NGLA covers the cost of travel, lodging, registration, and meals. These roles are expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead, the monthly Conference Committee Meeting, and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

The Conference Operations Coordinator collaborates with the Volunteer Leadership Team (VLT) and Conference Committee to support the NGLA Annual Conference. The Conf. Ops. Coordinator, with guidance from Conference Leadership Team (CLT), leads on-site logistics, including the event schedule, distribution of NGLA Awards, the NGLA Fund Desk, plus hotel room reservations and delivered meals/snacks for the NGLA Team. Additionally, the Conf. Ops. Coordinator participates in the preparation of scripts and slideshows for large group gatherings during the NGLA Annual Conference.

 

The Conf. Ops. Coordinator must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate with a large team. Experience with event management is required. Experience volunteering with NGLA is preferred. Two-year commitment to the Conference Operations Team is preferred.

 

The Conference Operations Coordinator is a member of the Conference Committee and of the Conference Operations Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Operations Manager.

The Educational Programming Chair is responsible for coordinating all educational content of the NGLA Annual Conference. This person leads the NGLA Annual Conference Call for Programs process, including designing the application, facilitating the selection process, and determining the schedule of educational programming. The Ed. Programming Chair supervises the Educational Programming Selection Committee. Additionally, the Educational Programming Chair participates in the preparation of scripts and slideshows for large group gatherings during the NGLA Annual Conference.

 

The Ed. Programming Chair must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delegate responsibilities, and oversee a large team. Experience with conference educational programming or similar experience is preferred. Experience volunteering for NGLA is preferred.

 

The Ed. Programming Chair is a member of the Conference Committee and the Ed. Programming Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Educational Programming Operations Coordinator supports all educational content of the NGLA Annual Conference. This person participates in the NGLA Annual Conference Call for Programs process, including designing the application, facilitating the selection process, and determining the schedule of educational programming. The Ed. Programming Ops. Coordinator oversees all sponsored educational programs and the Case Study Competition at the NGLA Annual Conference. Additionally, the Ed. Programming Ops. Coordinator participates in the preparation of scripts and slideshows for large group gatherings during the NGLA Annual Conference. The Ed. Programming Ops. Coordinator must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

 

The Ed. Programming Ops. Coordinator is a member of the Conference Committee, Ed. Programming Selection Committee, and the Ed. Programming Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Public Relations Chair creates and implements NGLA’s year-round social media strategy to promote NGLA initiatives and engage the community through Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok. The Public Relations Chair collaborates with the NGLA Team and partners to share information and execute coordinated campaigns. This includes developing and maintaining a content calendar, posting promotional materials such as countdowns, testimonials, reminders, and helpful tips, and collaborating with the Graphic Designer to ensure brand consistency across all platforms. The Public Relations Chair also monitors interactions on NGLA’s platforms and communicates concerns to the Executive Director and their Volunteer Lead.

 

The Public Relations Chair leads all real-time social media coverage to ensure that the NGLA Annual Conference is well-documented through photos and videos. This includes creating and executing comprehensive photography and videography shot lists, as well as overseeing photographers and videographers. The Public Relations Chair also works closely with the Sponsor Liaison to fulfill all sponsor-related marketing obligations, including reposting content and featuring sponsor engagement during the event.

 

The Public Relations Chair must be detail-oriented and be comfortable working autonomously. Experience volunteering for NGLA or attending the NGLA Annual Conference is required. Experience on NGLA Student Staff or as a member of the NGLA Conference Committee is preferred. Experience with photography or managing visual content is preferred.

 

The Public Relations Chair is a member of the Conference Committee and the Marketing Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Registration Chair manages the NGLA Annual Conference registration process. This person leads the design of the NGLA Annual Conference registration process and waiver to attend the event. The Reg. Chair also leads the creation of registration-related communications and provides registration-related customer support to the NGLA community, including but not limited to completing or adjusting registrations and managing invoices. The Reg. Chair leads the Registration Desk at the NGLA Annual Conference and supervises volunteers assigned to support registration-related work.

 

The Reg. Chair must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and have strong written and verbal communication skills. One year of experience with NGLA Registration technology, NGLA Student Staff, or other positions assigned to support NGLA Registration is preferred.

 

The Reg. Chair is a member of the Conference Committee and the Registration Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Registration Operations Coordinator supports the NGLA Annual Conference registration process. This person participates in the design of the NGLA Annual Conference registration process. The Reg. Ops. Coordinator also contributes to the creation of registration-related communications and provides registration-related customer support to the NGLA community, including, but not limited to, granting access to the Whova platform.

 

The Reg. Ops. Coordinator must be able to analyze data, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

The Reg. Ops. Coordinator is a member of the Conference Committee and the Registration Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Sponsor Operations Coordinator contributes to fulfilling sponsorship agreements and supports sponsors throughout the year. This includes managing the NGLA Sponsor Contractual Obligations Tracker (SCOT), coordinating sponsor registration and the collection of required materials, and creating the Whova Virtual Exhibit Hall. The Sponsor Ops. Coordinator also ensures that sponsor content is accurate and consistent across NGLA platforms and assists with the development of communications, resources, and print materials for the NGLA Annual Conference.

 

The Sponsor Ops. Coordinator supports the NGLA Village and program sponsorships on-site at the NGLA Annual Conference. This includes addressing questions, resolving issues, and ensuring sponsor agreements are executed as planned.

 

The Sponsor Operations Coordinator is a member of the Conference Committee and the Sponsorship Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Student Staff Chair oversees a large team of undergraduate and graduate Student Staff members, including the Student Staff Captain. The Student Staff Chair leads the design of the Student Staff application, selection, and training process. The Student Staff Chair works with the Conference Committee to determine the responsibilities of the Student Staff Team during the NGLA Annual Conference. This includes collaborating with the Student Staff Captain to ensure the Student Staff Team is well-trained while providing a positive and meaningful developmental experience.

 

Experience with conference support staff or similar experience is preferred. Experience volunteering for NGLA is preferred.

 

The Student Staff Chair is a member of the Conference Committee and the Student Staff Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Technology Chair manages all technology needs for the NGLA Annual Conference. This includes preparing and managing the electronic program guide in Whova, excluding the registration process, ensuring appropriate A/V is provided for all educational and entertainment sessions, and troubleshooting A/V during the NGLA Annual Conference. The Technology Chair may be asked to provide A/V recommendations to the Executive Director and should be familiar with industry standards and best practices for equipment purchase and use.

 

Experience volunteering for NGLA or attending the NGLA Annual Conference is required. Experience on the NGLA Conference Committee is preferred.

 

The Technology Chair is a member of the Conference Committee and the Student Staff Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

Remote-Only Roles

The Director of Recognition and Engagement supports and supervises the NGLA Ambassador Chair, NGLA Awards Chair, and Assessment Chair to strengthen community engagement and impact, celebrate achievements of the fraternal community, and ensure thoughtful evaluation of programs and experiences. The Director fosters collaboration across volunteer teams and aligns efforts with the strategic goals of the Board of Directors to elevate the Association’s offerings.

 

The Director of Recognition and Engagement must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and excel at working with a large, diverse group of stakeholders. Experience with recognition and engagement programs is preferred. Experience volunteering with NGLA or similar conferences is preferred.

 

The Director of Recognition and Engagement is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. This person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times during September through December. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Director of Recognition and Engagement is a member of the Volunteer Leadership Team (VLT), which includes the Conference Leadership Team (CLT). The Volunteer Lead for this role is the Executive Director.

The Communications Coordinator collaborates with the NGLA Team and the external marketing support vendor to prepare publications, guides, and other resources that are shared with the NGLA community. This dynamic role is responsible for content management, including creating new content and proofreading established content. The Communications Coordinator will have the opportunity to develop their communication skills further, support brand consistency and recognition, contribute to the growth of a nonprofit organization, and assist with establishing the voice of NGLA.

 

The Communications Coordinator must have strong verbal and written skills, motivation to take the initiative on projects, and the ability to work independently when needed. Strong attention to detail and comfort in adapting to changing timelines are also essential. In addition, this person must be able to delegate responsibilities and follow up on outstanding tasks. Two-year commitment is preferred.

 

The Communications Coordinator is not required to volunteer at NGLA events – this person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times from August through February. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. The Communications Coordinator is part of the Marketing Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair.

The Graphic Designer is a vital member of the NGLA Marketing Team, leading the creation of visual content that promotes the NGLA brand, programs, and the NGLA Annual Conference across digital platforms. This role focuses on designing engaging, accessible, and brand-aligned graphics to support marketing initiatives throughout the year.

 

The Graphic Designer collaborates closely with the Social Media Chair, Sponsorship Team, Educational Programming Team, and their Volunteer Lead. Design deliverables include campaign graphics (e.g., calls for programs, registration, awards), organizational branding assets (e.g., Zoom backgrounds), and promotional content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok.

 

Ideal candidates are proficient in tools such as Canva, understand platform-specific visual standards, and are familiar with digital engagement trends. Strong communication, creativity, and attention to detail are essential. Experience with NGLA is preferred. Two-year commitment is preferred.

 

The Graphic Designer is not required to volunteer at NGLA events – this person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak activity from July through February. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Graphic Designer is part of the Marketing Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair.

The Website Manager is the primary contact for all aspects of the Association’s website. This pivotal role involves managing a spectrum of responsibilities, including routine site and content maintenance and implementing updates to ensure the website effectively aligns with the Association’s goals and objectives. The Website Manager will conduct regular website audits to identify and promptly address technical issues or bugs.

 

Experience with WordPress is preferred. Experience with NGLA is preferred. Two-year commitment is preferred.

 

The Website Manager is not required to volunteer at NGLA events – this person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak activity from July through March. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Website Manager is part of the Marketing Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair.

The Business Analyst partners with the Operations Manager to support the Association’s documentation and process improvement initiatives. This person participates in documenting workflows, policies, and procedures. The Business Analyst collaborates with several teams to identify opportunities for operational efficiency and propose improvements that align with NGLA’s strategic initiatives and industry best practices. Additionally, this person supports the Assessment Program, including, but not limited to, the NGLA Annual Conference Report and the NGLA Annual Report.

 

The Business Analyst must have strong communication, collaboration, time management, and attention to detail skills. This person must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and excel at working with a large, diverse group of stakeholders. Experience with business analysis and proficiency in project management software, preferably Asana, are required. Experience volunteering with NGLA or similar conferences is preferred.

 

The Business Analyst is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. This person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times during June, July, January, February, and March. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead will be the Operations Manager.

The Program Coordinator coordinates all educational content outside of the NGLA Annual Conference. This includes The Conversation, virtual programming, and the NGLA Podcast. This person participates in the design of the NGLA Call for Programs and is a member of the Educational Programming Selection Committee. The Program Coordinator oversees the selection and scheduling of all educational content outside the NGLA Annual Conference.

 

The Program Coordinator must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with educational programming or similar experience is preferred.

 

The Program Coordinator is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. This person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times from August through December. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Program Coordinator is a member of the Educational Programming Team. The Volunteer Lead will be the Conference Chair or Assistant Conference Chair.

The Project Coordinator partners with the Operations Manager to develop budget-aligned, comprehensive project plans for educational programs hosted by NGLA. This includes the NGLA Annual Conference, The Conversation, virtual programming, and the NGLA Podcast. This person supports the execution of programs by monitoring project plans in conjunction with the associated NGLA Project Lead. The NGLA Project Lead is the person accountable for the successful implementation of the project. The Project Coordinator contributes to documentation, prepares progress reports, and communicates project status to leadership and stakeholders.

 

The Project Coordinator must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and excel working with a large, diverse group of stakeholders. Project management experience and proficiency in project management software, preferably Asana, are required. Experience volunteering with NGLA or similar conferences is preferred. Two-year commitment is preferred.

 

The Project Coordinator is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. This person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times during June, July, January, February, and March. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead will be the Operations Manager.

The Assessment Committee supports assessment efforts for the Association, including but not limited to educational, sponsor, and volunteer experiences. This person collaborates with other individuals as directed to evaluate the alignment of programming and plans with strategic initiatives.

 

The Assessment Committee must have experience in assessment.

 

The Assessment Committee is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. The responsibilities for this position are from November through May. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead for the Assessment Committee is the Assessment Chair.

The Educational Programming Selection Committee assists with selecting educational programming for the NGLA Educational Programming. This Committee is responsible for reviewing program proposals and providing feedback that is used to select the programs, as well as educating applicants on ways their proposals could be improved.

 

The Educational Programming Selection Committee must be able to work autonomously to complete program submission reviews on time.

 

The Educational Programming Selection Committee is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. The responsibilities for this role are from mid-August through early October. Additional support through early December may be requested. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead for the Educational Programming Selection Committee is the Educational Programming Chair.

The NGLA Ambassador Chair plays a pivotal role in expanding the impact of NGLA. This role leads the NGLA Ambassadors with support from the Director of Recognition and Engagement to spearhead initiatives to broaden participation in NGLA programs, especially at the NGLA Annual Conference. This person cultivates relationships within the NGLA community and thrives in managing multiple connections simultaneously.

 

Experience volunteering for NGLA or attending the NGLA Annual Conference is preferred.

 

The NGLA Ambassador Chair is not required to volunteer at NGLA events – this person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times from July through February. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead for the NGLA Ambassador Chair is the Director of Recognition and Engagement. The NGLA Ambassador Chair supervises the NGLA Ambassadors.

The NGLA Ambassador plays a pivotal role in expanding the impact of NGLA. This team collaborates with the NGLA Ambassadors Chair and the Director of Recognition and Engagement to spearhead initiatives that broaden participation in NGLA programs, particularly at the NGLA Annual Conference. NGLA Ambassadors cultivate relationships within the NGLA community and thrive in managing multiple connections simultaneously.

 

Experience volunteering for NGLA or attending the NGLA Annual Conference is preferred.

 

NGLA Ambassadors are not required to volunteer at NGLA events – this person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel) by securing two new delegations who register for the event. The responsibilities for this role are year-round, with peak times from September through February. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead for the NGLA Ambassador is the NGLA Ambassador Chair.

The NGLA Awards Chair is responsible for evaluating, refining, and managing the NGLA Awards Program. This person leads the design of the application and oversees the NGLA Awards selection process, including supervising the NGLA Awards Judges.

 

The Awards Chair must be able to work autonomously, delegate responsibilities, and oversee a medium-sized team. One year of experience working with an awards process is preferred.

 

The Awards Chair is not required to volunteer at NGLA events – this person is invited to participate in the upcoming NGLA Annual Conference with complimentary registration (excluding lodging and travel). The responsibilities for this role are primarily during August and September, as well as mid-January through February. This role is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with their Volunteer Lead and the periodic Volunteer Team Meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.

 

The Volunteer Lead for the NGLA Awards Chair is the Director of Recognition and Engagement. The NGLA Awards Chair supervises the Awards Judges.

The NGLA Awards Judge assists with the selection of NGLA Awards recipients. This person is responsible for reviewing NGLA Awards applications to support the selection of recipients and educate applicants on ways their applications could be improved.

 

The Awards Judge must be able to work autonomously to complete award submission reviews on time.

 

The Awards Judge is not required to volunteer at NGLA events. The responsibilities for this role are from early January through early February. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in programs to support the NGLA Fund.
